Every home theater is unique in its own way, but once in a while we come across a set-up that stands out because of the owner’s creativity and skill set. Will from Texas has just such a system after incorporating an antique Chevy truck bed into his entertainment center and flanking it with a high octane SVS PB12-NSD subwoofer. Combining his passion for autos and audio, Will now enjoys a one-of-a-kind set-up with low frequency sound he never knew existed before SVS. Days of Thunder never sounded better.

Questions And Answers:
When did you first start getting into high-performance home theater and audio?
I started getting into audio systems in 2009 when we bought our first house and started messing around with the home theater system. First system was a Polk Audio.
Where did the truck parts come from for your custom cabinet?
I live in Hewitt, TX and I’ve been looking for an old Chevy truck bed for a while to make shelves out of, I ended up picking the bed up off of Craigslist in Houston from a hotrodder who had a lot of cool cars when we went and got it, My wife Angee was the real reason it became an entertainment center (It helps when your wife is into cars). When we got our new couch, the truck bed was supposed to go behind the couch but turns out there wasn’t enough room so my wife came up with the idea to put it in the front and that's when we started building an entertainment center for the TV.
What was the process like putting it together?
The process took about two months with me just working on it during the weekend. I started working on it by roughing it out since the floor was completely gone, though I wasn't too worried about that since I was replacing the wood and I just wanted the patina paint that was left on it.
I mocked up where the TV would fit, then I started cutting out for the speakers to fit inside the fenders. Once that was all done, I brought it to my shop and added some finish options to make sure the look would remain. This included clear coating it, re-sanding and then applying a matte clear to give it that semi shine but smoothness with the old patina look. When we got it back to house, we started building it back up, mounting the speakers and then incorporating some foam egg crate material from a bed for sound deadening for inside the fenders, I was worried about rattling from the speakers but once we fired it up, there was no rattling, really happy about that lol!
What was the impact of adding the SVS PB12-NSD Subwoofer to your system?
So the impact after adding an SVS subwoofer is best summed up by my friend Shaun who works at an audio store. I went in to inquire about my next surround sound setup and was planning on going back to Polk Audio because that what I had used in the past. After I had talked to Shaun about what I wanted and my concerns, and told him I just wanted that room-energizing Wow factor when you’re sitting down and watching a good movie, and he steered me to my first SVS sub which I love.
Shaun had got me the right setup for what I was wanting and after I got it setup and rolling, it definitely proved his expertise! The price was right where I wanted and the performance I’m getting out of it is amazing, it’s like night and day compared to my system with no subwoofer, I was shocked. So my setup right now is 2 Elac debut 2.0 bookshelf, an Elac debut 2.0 center and 2 Yamaha rear mount wall mount speakers and then the beastly PB12 Sub.
Why is bass important to your home theater experience?
Man as far as bass, I love it, and now that I got a taste of what clean, room-shaking bass feels like, I can’t live without it. It’s definitely become one of the most important parts to my entertainment experience.
What are some of your favorite movies or music for showing off your system?
As far as my go to movie or music I would have to say Days of Thunder when Tom Cruise says “I’m dropping the hammer,” that's when I crank it up. For music, anything from Candlebox to good ole’ Jason Aldean, I like to mix it up.
Anything else you’d like to share with the SVS community?
I absolutely love my sub and everything about it, and being this is my first one, I think the only thing better would be to add a second lol.
