Every aspect of the Prime Tower speakers was designed for sonic excellence. From the premium grade drivers and sophisticated SoundMatch crossover to the extra-thick baffle, internal bracing, and FEA optimized tweeter diffuser, the Prime Tower speaker’s design and engineering credentials place it among the best $1,000 tower speakers available.

Prime Driver & Tweeter Design

Prime Driver & Tweeter Design

Thoughtfully designed for acoustic excellence, the 4.5-inch midrange driver is mounted in its own dedicated and completely sealed compartment to ensure a smooth, precise and clear midrange free from coloration. The cone material is extremely light and rigid and maintains a flat frequency response with excellent handling across the foundational mid-range frequencies.

Dual 6.5-inch woofers deliver effortlessly deep and articulate bass to set the mood and punctuate the low-end impact of instruments, basslines and movie sound effects. Each woofer has a separate internal compartment in the cabinet with its own custom port tuning frequency. The result is deep, powerful and accurate bass you hear and more importantly, feel.

The Prime Tower speaker’s 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter is light, efficient, and rigid, and plays crystal clear at high volumes. The clarity offers a sense of utter transparency, while offering an ‘airy’ presentation and incredibly unveiled highs so female vocals and dialogue always sound crisp and smooth.

Innovative SoundMatch Crossover Design

Innovative SoundMatch Crossover Design

Since premium drivers require an equally capable crossover, no expense was spared with the innovative SVS SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover. Its tapered array is designed so each woofer has its own discrete crossover to minimize the potential for beaming. This creates an expansive, yet focused and precise soundstage, with accurate frequency response at all listening positions in the room. The precise tuning of the SoundMatch Crossover also ensures pinpoint accuracy from sparkling highs down to palpable lows, while maintaining pristine signal purity.

Performance Driven Cabinet Design and Geometry

Tapered edges on the Prime Tower speaker’s front baffle, known as chamfers, minimize edge diffraction for clear and precise soundstaging. The cabinet’s presence is substantial but it does not take over a room visually and offers a modern industrial feel with acoustic enhancements like shorting rings and a tweeter diffuser. All of these advancements are packed into a sleek but commanding floor standing speaker cabinet available in stunning piano gloss black or premium black ash finish.

Placement Critical

I believe my Prime Tower speakers have been played enough to be broken in by now. I really enjoyed the speaker placement article I was sent. As the placement of the Prime Towers is very critical to how they sound. I expected to be blown away with the imaging and detail based on all the reviews I read. I was not pleased with them when they were on the floor. So I moved them around quite a bit, with little improvement. On the plus side, I now consider myself an expert at running the Audyssey on the Denon. When I put them on stands there was a noticeable improvement. Unfortunately, the lowest my current speaker stands will go is 13." According to the speaker placement guide I really need to find a pair of 8" stands that will support their weight, that will put them at the right height. I've listened to the towers by themselves in stereo, as well as in the multi-channel setup of 7.2, which is how I prefer to listen now. The addition of the Prime Towers may have improved the sound of my system by a percent if at all. My system already sounded excellent, I just wanted to add towers as front speakers. My impression is that any improvement I perceive is from moving up from the 5.2 to the 7.2. They do sound clean, warm, and full-bodied, but placement is critical. Make sure to read the SVS speaker placement article. I really wanted to be blown away, but I wasn't. I still haven't been able to achieve any imaging out of these. This is my evaluation in my room, in your room and set-up you may well get the results I've read in some of these 5 star reviews. I'm 61, and have listened to music over 10 hours a day, every day for most of my life. I love Jazz, classical, big band, rock and country music. So I've tested the speakers on a wide variety of music. I was unable to listen to the SVS recommended music list as the "free" trial service requires a CC so they can auto-bill you at the end of the trial. Apparently, the streaming service SVS uses doesn't believe they provide enough value for someone to subscribe without being auto-billed. They bank on people getting caught up in life and forgetting to cancel. So I've used CD's which contain the music I've used to compare many speakers throughout my life. The streaming music I listen to is in 258 kbps. Most of my CD's have been converted to 258 kbps files so I can listen to them via HEOS as well. I prefer my music to sound as close to what I remember hearing during the live performances as possible. I still need to find some 8 inch stands, which will support the weight of the Prime Towers. Then replace my old monster cables that I'm using with more of the SVS cable, I'll need about 200 more feet to finish it out. And of course, I have to do the work, which depends on how I'm feeling on how soon I get to it. The Prime Towers are short runs as they are my front speakers, so they will be the easiest. But I used the SVS cable I purchased on my middle speakers because cutting it in half worked perfectly for those two speakers. They do sound better on the SVS cable than they did with my old Monster Cable. Good cable does make an audible difference in the sound quality. My room is 15' by 17' 6", with an opening of 9' at the back to my breakfast nook which is another 9' deep. It's a hard room, with wood floors, leather furniture, wood blinds, and no drapes. Due to my allergies, I don't have anything soft in the room that can hold allergens to aggravate my allergies. But it also won't absorb any sound, so it's a hard room, but I'm not hearing much reflection. My back speakers are at 17' 6". My subs are on the LFE cable, and the rest of the speakers are powered by my Denon AVR-S740 7.2 system. I'm not usually one who returns things, so I threw away the boxes when I got these and don't plan on returning them. I still move them around, as well as other items in the room, trying to get the sound right. Hopefully with new cables and the proper 8" stands it will get them sounding better and I won't have to move any more furniture. If after any more adjustments I can get some decent imaging from these Prime Towers, I will update this review.

Speakers shipped quickly. Each unit

Speakers shipped quickly. Each unit was well-packaged for protection. Connecting the speakers to my receiver was very easy; basically plug & play. One quick auto-adjustment to balance all 5 speakers & subwoofer, and my system was set. The difference in quality was immediate. Richer tones, coming through louder & more clearly compared to prior speakers. Movies and vinyl record play both greatly and improved!!! Very satisfied buyer. Currently researching the SVS subwoofer options as another upgrade

Good looks & sound

I just received a pair of SVS Prime towers last week and impressed with the improvement in my system. My previous setup had a pair of Fluance XL8 towers purchased in Oct. 2020 and the SVS Ultra Center (April 2020) for the front stage. My setup is a 5.2. 4 with a Marantz 6014 and dual 2000 pros. I was having a problem with the center sounding boomy and felt that something was missing. After trying all the suggestions from online forum's I was convinced that I needed a separate amplifier for the fronts but was discouraged by AV Rant's Tom & Rob that a separate amplifier would not solve the issue. They suggested that I would get a better result by spending money on new left & right speakers rather than an amp. I purchased dual SVS PB1000 in june 2019. Then moved up to dual NSDs12s in Dec 2019 and dual PB2000 Pros in May 2020. The Ultra Center is the best center channel Ive owned. I guess I'm a SVS fan. So, I decided to upgrade to the Prime Towers. Now my front stage is seamless with no boomy sound from the dialog and good channel separation. The extra cost for the piano gloss finish was well worth it. Every time I walk by them I smile.
