Hertz

Hertz

Hertz, or Hz for short, is a term used in the measurement of loudspeakers when defining the frequency response capabilities across the audible spectrum, including movies and music. Ideally, a full-range speaker can reproduce frequencies ranging from approximately 20Hz to 20kHz, covering the range of human hearing, with 20Hz-400Hz representation the bass and mid-bass region, and 400Hz-20kHz covering the midrange and high frequencies.

Hertz as a measurement of frequency (cycles per second) is also used in digital audio. The measurement describes the number of moments of audio sampled as data per second to convey an analog sound in digital form. These data points are known as the sampling rate or sampling frequency.
